WVU Falls Short Against Baylor in First Round of Big 12 Tennis Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team lost to the Baylor Bears, 4-2, in the first round of the 2024 Big 12 Tennis Tournament at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Wednesday.
West Virginia (14-12, 3-10 Big 12) had an impressive start to the match, earning the doubles point against the Bears. The pairing of junior Michaela Kucharova and senior Momoko Nagato jumped out to an early lead and won the No. 1 seed match, 6-4.
The pairing of redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik and graduate student Ting-Pei Chang fell in the No. 2 spot, 6-2. However, the Mountaineers were dominant in the No. 3 seed match as the pairing of graduate student Love-Star Alexis and junior Tatiana Lipatova won, 6-3.
West Virginia continued to battle with Baylor in singles play as Lipatova won in the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-4. After Baylor won the No. 1 seed and No. 3 seed matches, things were tied at 2-2.
The Mountaineers continued to compete with Baylor but were unable to regain momentum. Baylor won the final two singles matches to clinch the match.
