
West Virginia Loses to No. 44 BYU to Close Out the Regular Season

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis lost to No. 44 BYU, 4-0, in the final regular season match in Provo, Utah, on Saturday.
West Virginia (14-11, 3-10 Big 12) finished the regular season with its most wins in a season since it won 17 in 2010. The Mountaineers also won its most Big 12 matches in a single season since joining the conference.
WVU began the day battling the Cougars in doubles play. The pairing of redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik and graduate student Ting-Pei Chang lost in the No. 2 spot, 6-0. The Mountaineers rallied in the No. 3 seed match as freshman Maya Bordereau and junior Camilla Bossi won, 6-3.
In the No. 1 seed match, junior Michaela Kucharova and senior Momoko Nagato nearly pulled off an upset against the No. 52 doubles pairing of Emilee Astle and Kendall Kovick. However, the pairing lost the last three games of the set after leading, 5-4, to drop the match.
In singles play, the Mountaineers were unable to overcome BYU as the Cougars clinched the match after winning three singles matches. Bossi fell in the No. 1 seed match, 6-4, 6-1. Bordereau was defeated in the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-3.
Graduate student Love-Star Alexis lost in the No. 2 seed match, 7-5, 6-0, as BYU took the match.
