MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt junior
Cassandra Williamson of the West Virginia University track and field team set the program record in the women's 800-meter invitational on Friday evening at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California.
Williamson surpassed her own previously held record of 2:04.81 in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.51 in Azusa, finishing 31
st out of 238 athletes.
Redshirt senior
Mikenna Vanderheyden trailed behind in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line at the 2:06.98 mark. Additionally, freshman
Kishay Rowe added a personal best in the event, running for a time of 2:07.24.
Freshman
Mary Delaney competed in the 800-meter open, collecting a 2:12:50 finish.
Next, West Virginia continues at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Saturday with the women's 400 meters, the 1,500-meter invitational and the 1,500-meter open.
The Mountaineers will also compete at the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania which kicks off with the 1,500-meter unseeded race at 12:15 p.m. ET. West Virginia is also set for the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 1:55 p.m., followed by the women's high jump at 2 p.m. The squad concludes in Lewisburg with the 800 meters at 4:40 p.m., followed by the women's 1,500-meter invitational at 7:10 p.m.
