
Mountaineers Hit the Road to Face No. 7 Texas, No. 20 Oklahoma

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team will be on the road for the first time in Big 12 Conference play this season to face No. 7 Texas on Friday, March 8, in Austin, Texas, and No. 20 Oklahoma on Sunday, March 10, in Norman, Okla.
West Virginia (11-3, 0-2 Big 12) will face Texas at 3 p.m. ET and Oklahoma at 2 p.m. Final results will be available at WVUsports.com.
The Mountaineers will face the Longhorns and Sooners after dropping two straight matches to TCU, 4-0, and then-No. 30 Baylor, 4-0, in Morgantown to begin Big 12 play. Texas and Oklahoma will be the second and third-straight ranked teams West Virginia will face.
Redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik is off to a strong start in singles play in 2024 as she has won six straight matches and is 10-2 overall. She is tied with senior Momoko Nagato for the best overall singles record on the team.
Three Mountaineers are currently undefeated in singles play including juniors Tatiana Lipatova (4-0), Michaela Kucharova (4-0) and Catherine Wassick (2-0). Overall, WVU is 49-25 in singles this season.
In doubles play, the Mountaineers have mainly relied on the pairing of Nagato and Kucharova. They currently sit at 7-2, playing as the No. 1 seed in all nine matches this season.
The pairing of Dodik and freshman Maya Bordereau has been nearly unbeatable. The pair is 9-2 this year as they have the most wins in doubles play for WVU. Overall, West Virginia is 21-13 in doubles this season.
Since joining the Big 12, West Virginia has never beaten Texas or Oklahoma.
