MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team opened the 2024 outdoor track and field home slate on Saturday at the Stan Romanoski Open at the Track and Field Complex at Mylan Park in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers were led by the mid-distance squad in the women's 800 meters, with freshman
Mary Delaney claiming first in the event with a time of 2:15.29. Redshirt sophomore
Emily Bryce and freshman
Eva Rinker claimed second and third place with times of 2:16.78 and 2:17.67, respectively.
Freshman Lily Haught claimed victory in the women's 400 meters with a time of 59.64 while classmate
Cate Pickering followed behind with a time of 1:02.26.
In the women's 5,000 meters, redshirt sophomore
Aubrie Custer boasted a personal best time of 18:39.74 claiming sixth place.
Up next, West Virginia will send split squads to the Raleigh Relays and the Stanford Invitational. The Raleigh Relays are slated for March 28-30 and will be held at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility in Raleigh, North Carolina. Additionally, the Mountaineers will travel to the Stanford Invitational on March 29-30 which will be held at the Cobb Track and Angeli Field in Stanford, California.
