MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University rifle fifth-year senior
Mary Tucker has secured her roster spot on the United States Olympic Team in smallbore ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games scheduled for this summer.
Tucker also qualified for the Olympic games in air rifle back in early January. Tucker is set to make her second appearance at the Olympic Games, last competing during the 2022 Tokyo Games. She won a silver medal in mixed team air rifle and finished sixth in women's air rifle.
The Sarasota, Florida native finished with an overall score of 2960.5 to claim her spot on the team. Sagen Maddalena finished in second place and qualified for the Olympics with a mark of 2960.5. Tucker claimed the top spot on "X's" with 176 for the trials.
Tucker will become the 20th member of the West Virginia University rifle team to compete at an Olympic Games and is the 14th to represent the United States.
Molly McGhin finished fifth at the trials with a 2931.5 while
Malori Brown claimed 10
th with a 2914.5. On the men's side,
Griffin Lake turned in the highest finish by a Mountaineer, taking eighth place with a 2922.5.
Matt Sanchez took 12
th place with a 2917.0 and
Gavin Barnick finished in 14
th with a 2915.5.
The 2024 Paris Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11 in Paris, France.
