UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –
The West Virginia University gymnastics team posted a season-high team score for the third straight meet, earning a 195.8 in a quad meet at Penn State with Ball State and Towson on Friday night inside Rec Hall in University Park, Pennsylvania.
Led by a 49.15 on floor exercise, WVU reached the season-best total with scores of 48.975 on vault, 48.75 on the uneven bars and 48.925 on balance beam. The host Nittany Lions took first place in the meet with a 196.825, while Towson was second with a 196.775. Ball State finished in third place scoring a 195.875, followed by the Mountaineers in fourth.
Opening up on beam, freshman
Julia Brown's 9.85 paced the lineup, followed by classmate
Amber Lowe's career-high 9.825. Freshman
Jurnee Lane added a 9.8, before sophomores
Miranda Smith and
Emma Wehry capped the scoring with a pair of 9.725's.
Moving to floor, all six gymnasts earned a 9.8 or higher, led by fifth-year senior
Abbie Pierson's season-high matching 9.875. Three scores of 9.825 followed Pierson, earned by Lowe, senior
Kiana Lewis and Lane. Brown and sophomore
Brooke Alban tallied a pair of 9.8's to finish the scoring.
In the third rotation on vault, a huge season-high 9.9 from Lewis led the way for the Mountaineers. Wehry was just shy with a season-high 9.875, while Pierson earned a 9.8. Alban, junior

Jayden McDonnell earned a trio of 9.7's to round out the rotation.
Finishing the meet on bars, Lowe once again paced the squad with a 9.825. Wehry secured a 9.8, followed by a 9.75 from McDonnell. Smith posted a 9.7, while Lane earned a 9.675 after competing under pressure following a fall before her.
In the final event standings, Lewis finished in a tie for third on vault, and Pierson tied for third on floor.
West Virginia now returns home to Morgantown to continue its two-meet weekend with its only home quad meet of the season. The Mountaineers welcome Pitt, Towson and Western Michigan to the WVU Coliseum on Sunday, March 3. Action begins at 2 p.m. ET, and it will be WVU's 50-Year Anniversary Celebration and Alumni Meet.
