West Virginia Begins Big 12 Play Against TCU, Baylor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 61 West Virginia University tennis team will begin Big 12 Conference play with matches against TCU on Friday, March 1, and Baylor on Sunday, March 3, in Morgantown.
The location of the match has yet to be determined for Friday's match. It will be announced before the scheduled start on Friday. Final results will be available at WVUsports.com.
West Virginia (11-1) is off to its best start through 12 matches since 1986. During that season, the Mountaineers began 12-0 and finished 21-10 overall.
WVU returns to Big 12 play after going 1-8 last season in the conference. West Virginia defeated Kansas State, 4-2, in 2023.
This also marks the first time since the 2006 and 2007 seasons that West Virginia has back-to-back seasons with double-digit wins.
Senior Momoko Nagato leads the team in singles play at 10-1 overall. Redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik is the only other Mountaineer with double-digit wins as she is 10-2 in singles. Freshman Maya Bordereau has been a strong presence for WVU in the No. 2 seed singles spot as she is 7-3 this year.
In doubles play, the Mountaineers have two teams who have been nearly unbeatable. The pairing of Bordereau and Dodik is 9-1 this season, while the doubles team of Nagato and junior Michaela Kucharova is 7-1 this season.
West Virginia unveiled a new doubles pairing with graduate student Ting-Pei Chang and junior Tatiana Lipatova against Navy and Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 24. The pair went 2-0 in the doubleheader.
As a team, WVU is 49-19 in singles and 20-9 in doubles play.
