MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team completed the final day of the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship collecting seven All-Big 12 honors Saturday in Lubbock, Texas.
Saturday's competition was highlighted by redshirt junior
Ceili McCabe who finished third in the women's mile with a time of 4:38.57, earning conference honors. Classmate
Mikenna Vanderheyden also added All-Big 12 honors in the women's 1,000 meters, claiming fourth place with a 2:48.12 finish.
Redshirt junior
Cassandra Williamson collected All-Big 12 honors in the women's 800 meters, running for a personal best time altitude adjusted time of 2:04.44. With the time, Williamson claimed the program record in the event.
West Virginia also added conference honors in Friday's women's distance medley relay. The team of redshirt senior
Sarah Tait, freshman
Kishay Rowe, McCabe and Vanderheyden collected All-Big 12 Honors after claiming the conference title in the event. Friday's win marks the first gold medal in the DMR at the Big 12 Indoor Championship since 2021.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of freshmen Lily Haught, Rowe, Williamson and Vanderheyden landed second on the all-time list after finishing with a 3:43.17.
Redshirt sophomores
Emily Bryce and
Tatiana Moura ran for times of 9:47.49 and 10:06.45 in the women's 3,000 meters, respectively.
On the field, redshirt freshman
Annishka McDonald led West Virginia in the women's high jump, finishing at the 1.72-meter mark. Senior
Abigale Mullings followed behind, jumping for 1.67 meters.
Freshman
Sophia Ludwig competed in the women's triple jump, leaping for 11.83 meters.
"I am very happy with the efforts of these young ladies that competed in this meet," said WVU coach
Sean Cleary. "The win in the DMR, a near miss with a school record in the 4x400 meter relay and an altitude adjusted program record in the 800 meters were but a few of our highlights this weekend."
Next up, the Mountaineers will have a bye week before heading to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. The championship is slated for March 8-9 and will be held at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston, Massachusetts. The final list of meet participants will be released by the NCAA on Tuesday, Feb. 27. The championships will be streamed live on the ESPN family of networks while live results can be found on WVUsports.com.
