
West Virginia Heads to Lubbock for Big 12 Indoor Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team is slated for the 2024 Big 12 Indoor Championship on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24.
Texas Tech will serve as host, as the championship will be held at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas. Friday's competition is slated to start at 11 a.m. ET, followed by a noon start on Saturday.
West Virginia is set to compete against 13 conference opponents, which includes Baylor, BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech and UCF.
The conference championship will feature the heptathlon, the pentathlon, the mile run, 800 meters, 60-meters hurdles, 60-meter dash, 600-yard run, 400 meters, 1,000 meters, 200 meters, 5,000 meters, the distance medley relay, 3,000 meters, and the 4x400 meter relay.
On the field, the weight throw, shotput, pole vault, triple jump, long jump, and high jump, will be featured.
In 2023, senior Ceili McCabe claimed conference victory in the women's 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:21.21. The distance medley relay team of Mikaela Lucki, Tessa Constantine, redshirt junior Cassandra Williamson and McCabe finished second in the event with a time of 11:23.76. The squad finished with 11 All-Big 12 honors at the conference championship.
Last time out, West Virginia competed at the Penn State Tune-Up on February 16 in University Park, Pennsylvania. The meet was highlighted by redshirt freshman Annishka McDonald who claimed first place in the high jump at the 1.70-meter mark.
