
West Virginia Moves to No. 5 in Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team was selected fifth in the NCAA DI Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mountaineers move to No. 5 after being picked fourth in week four of the coaches' poll on Oct. 22.
West Virginia receives the ranking after finishing second at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Nov. 1 in Waco, Texas. WVU's conference championship performance was highlighted by senior Ceili McCabe, who boasted a personal and program best time of 19:02.6 in the women's 6k. With the time, McCabe claimed her third Big 12 cross country title.
Freshman Joy Naukot finished next for the Mountaineers, claiming third place with the fastest time for a freshman at West Virginia, 19:18.1. Naukot earned All-Big 12 honors with the placement. Redshirt senior Sarah Tait rounded out the top 15 for West Virginia, crossing the finish line in twelfth place with a person best time of 19:59.3, earning All-Big 12 honors.
Additionally, the Mountaineers were selected first in the USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings. West Virginia tops No. 2 Georgetown, No. 3 Penn State, No. 4 Princeton and No. 5 Villanova in the regional rankings.
Next, West Virginia will compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Nov. 15. This year's regional championship will be hosted by Penn State, at the Blue and White Courses in University Park, Pennsylvania. The women's 6k race start time is to be announced.
