
Mountaineers Rise to No. 4 in the NCAA DI Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team moves to No. 4 in the NCAA DI Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday afternoon.
West Virginia's newest ranking comes after claiming first place at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Nov. 15 at the Blue and White Courses in University Park, Pennsylvania. The Mountaineers posted a program record score of 41 at the regional meet and claimed their first Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship since 2008.
The Mountaineers move to No. 4 after being tabbed at No. 5 in week fives coaches' poll on Nov. 5.
All five of West Virginia's top runners finished in the top 25, earning them All-Big 12 honors.
The Mountaineers were led by senior Ceili McCabe who captured her third regional title, with a course record time of 19:11.2.
Freshman Joy Naukot finished next for the Mountaineers in sixth place with a time of 19:49.4, while redshirt senior Sarah Tait landed in ninth place with a personal best time of 19:58.9.
Redshirt junior Emily Bryce earned a personal best time as well, claiming 10th place while running a 20:05.6. Graduate student Madison Trippett rounded out West Virginia's top five runners in 13th place with a time of 20:13.2.
West Virginia now prepares for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23 after earning an automatic berth at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Nov. 15. Wisconsin will serve as this year's championship host as the race is set to be held at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisconsin. The women's 6k is slated to begin at 10:20 a.m. ET, followed by the men's 10 k at 11:10 a.m. The awards ceremony will be held after the completion of the men's race at approximately 12 p.m.
