
West Virginia Remains Perfect with Sweep of John Jay

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The No. 3-ranked West Virginia University rifle team collected its seventh straight win of the season with a 4736-4229 result over John Jay on Sunday inside the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center.
The win extends the Mountaineers' regular season win streak to 20 straight matches. West Virginia claimed smallbore and air rifle with marks of 2352 and 2384, respectively. John Jay hit marks of 2045 in smallbore and 2184 for air rifle.
For smallbore and air rifle, senior Gavin Barnick, sophomore Lauri Syrja and freshman Ashlyn Blake served as counters for the match. Sophomore Griffin Lake and freshman Camryn Camp counted toward the team total in smallbore while senior Natalie Perrin and freshman Jacob Wisman counted in air rifle.
West Virginia claimed the top seven spots on the overall leaderboard, led by Barnick. He scored a 1188 with marks of 591 in smallbore and 597 in air rifle. Barnicks smallbore score was the best in the field while his air rifle mark tied for second.
Lake finished just behind with a 1186, after marks of 590 for smallbore and 596 in air rifle. His smallbore score was the second-best in the field.
Syrja finished in third place with an aggregate score of 1184. His 587 in smallbore was the third best in the field and his 597 in air rifle tied for second. Camp posted an 1182 aggregate total with a score of 584 in smallbore and led the field with a 598 in air rifle.
Wisman scored 1179 (585 SB – 594 AR), Blake 1174 (584 SB – 590 AR) and Sophomore Maximus Duncan finished with 1162 (575 SB – 587 AR). Perrin only competed in air rifle and turned in a score of 596 to finish tied for fourth.
The Mountaineers are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Noon ET against defending NCAA National Champion TCU. The competition will take place at the WVU Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building.
