
Quinerly Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - After helping the Mountaineers to a historic week and two conference wins, junior guard JJ Quinerly of the West Virginia University women's basketball team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Quinerly helped the Mountaineers shut out both Houston and Cincinnati in the game-opening quarters of each contest last week. It marks the first time in NCAA Division I history a team has shut out opponents in back-to-back games in a quarter. The 41-point victory over Houston is the largest margin of victory in program history against a Big 12 opponent.
The Norfolk, Va., native led the effort on both ends of the court after managing 12 steals across the two games, including a career-high eight against Cincinnati. Quinerly also led the scoring effort in both games with 18 points against Houston and 23 against Cincinnati. She averaged 20.5 points, 6 steals, 3.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds for the week.
This Week in Women's Basketball: West Virginia competes just one time this week when it hosts No. 24 Iowa State on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. ET inside the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown … the contest will be a Gold Rush as fans are encouraged to wear gold to the game.
Last Week in Women's Basketball: West Virginia collected two Big 12 wins last week … on Jan. 17, at the WVU Coliseum, the Mountaineers defeated Houston, 80-39, marking the largest margin of victory in Big 12 history at 41 points … on Jan. 20, inside Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, West Virginia defeated Cincinnati 72-43 … West Virginia produced first-quarter shutouts in both contests, marking the first time in NCAA Division I history a team has produced back-to-back shutouts in a quarter.

This Week in Rifle: The Mountaineers are set to take on Navy on the road in Annapolis, Md., on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 9 a.m. ET ... the match will take place inside Bancroft Hall Rifle Range and will serve as a Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) match.
Last Week in Rifle: West Virginia collected its 10th win of the season on Jan. 20, with a 4739-4693 win over No. 16 Army… the Mountaineers packed the top of the leaderboard with six individuals occupying the top six spots and seven inside the top 10 … freshman Griffin Lake won the overall with a 1185 (589 SB – 596 AR) ... his mark in air rifle also was the highest score … fifth-year senior Malori Brown and senior Matt Sanchez tied for the best finish in smallbore with equal marks of 592.

Last week in Indoor Track & Field: West Virginia continued the 2024 season at the YSU Collegiate Invitational in Youngstown, Ohio, on Jan. 19 … freshman Kishay Rowe led the squad with her first place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 56.18 … freshman Lily Haught placed second in the 200-meter dash, finishing at the 25:41 mark … redshirt sophomore Emily Bryce ran a 4:56.53 in the mile run for a personal best and second place finish … freshman Eva Rinker made her collegiate debut in the 3,000-meter run, with a time of 10:31.97 and third place finish … senior Abigale Muling led the field events, placing second in the high jump at the 1.63-meter mark.
