MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team continued the 2024 indoor season on Friday, January 19 at the YSU Collegiate Invitational in Youngstown, Ohio.
The squad was led by freshman
Kishay Rowe, who claimed first in the 400-meter run, with a time of 56:18 for her collegiate debut in the event.
Freshman Lily Haught placed second in the 200-meter dash for a career-best time of 25.41. Freshman
Izayah Everett and freshman
Cate Pickering set personal bests in the event, with times of 25.74 and a 26.76, respectively.
Redshirt sophomore
Emily Bryce ran a 4:56.53 in the mile run, placing second while collecting a career-best time.
Freshman
Eva Rinker also made her collegiate debut, finishing third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:31.97. Redshirt sophomore
Zara Zervos added a career high in the event, with a time of 10:32.36 followed by redshirt sophomore
Aubrie Custer at 10:43.31 for a personal best.
Senior
Abigale Mullings led the field events with a second-place finish in the women's high jump at the 1.63-meter mark, followed by freshman
Victoria Marston with a 1.60 in third and junior
Eden Williams in fourth with a 1.57.
West Virginia competed in the women's long jump for the first team this season, with freshman
Sophia Ludwig placing seventh, jumping for 5.37 meters.
"We had a lot of newcomers running their personal bests at this meet, which bodes well for the future," said WVU coach
Sean Cleary. "We'll be opening up more of our team at the Penn State National Open to build upon our season's momentum."
Next up, the Mountaineers will travel to the Penn State National Open on Friday, January 26 until Saturday, January 27. The Penn State National Open will take place at the Multi-Sport Facility and Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in University Park, Pennsylvania.
