Mountaineers Open Season on a Good Foot at Lehigh Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team opened the 2023 season on Friday, Sept. 1 at the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
"We came to Lehigh to get a brand-new team onto the course, helping them learn about future races held here in Bethlehem." said WVU coach Sean Cleary.
Redshirt-sophomore Abbey Yuhasz finished sixth overall in the women's 6k with a time of 22:10.7, leading the pack of Mountaineers.
Redshirt-sophomore Emily Bryce was the second finisher for West Virginia, posting a 22:22.5 time and finishing 11th overall.
"It was great to see Abbey and Emily mixing it up near the front of the race for a great percentage of the 6k," stated Cleary. "The remainder of the squad ran at PR speeds. I see their times dropping significantly in the next few months."
The Mountaineers return to competition on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Spiked Shoe Invitational in State College, Pennsylvania. The race is slated for a 10 a.m. start time at the Blue and White Courses.
