
Mountaineers Fall in Chapel Hill

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team fell to North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on Thursday night.
The Tarheels took the match in three sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-21), but not without a fight from the Mountaineers.
Throughout the third set, West Virginia put up 21 points combining for 13 kills, 39 attacks and hit .308.
Freshman middle blocker Maddy McGath led the team with seven kills, hitting .429, while sophomore outside hitter Bailey Miller collected 33 attacks, six kills and one service ace.
Defensively, freshman outside hitter Sarah Gooch led the way with nine digs, tying her season high against the College of Charleston on Aug. 26. Redshirt senior setter Lauren DeLo and fifth year Camilla Covas added eight digs apiece, respectively.
Collectively, the Mountaineers dished out 98 attacks, 39 digs, 28 kills and eight blocks.
The Mountaineers are back in action on Friday, Sept.1, facing off against Loyola. The match will take place in Durham, N.C. at Cameron Indoor Stadium. First serve is set for 4 p.m. ET.
