MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Ceili McCabe of the West Virginia University track and field team has been named the Big 12 Conference's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
McCabe won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Track and Field Complex at Mylan Park during the Mountaineer Showcase on April 21 with a time of 9:45.40. The Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, native's time is good enough for the best in the Big 12 and third best in the country this season.
During the race, the Little Flower Academy graduate performed well enough to quadruple lap an opponent and beat her next closest competitor by over two minutes. Her time is good enough for second in WVU's record book, only behind her 9:30.69 effort in 2022.
Wednesday marks West Virginia's first outdoor track and field conference athlete of the week this season.
