
WVU Completes Day Two of Zones

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's diving teams completed the second day of competition at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown.
"I am proud of my seniors (Tiemeier and Johns) for their will to persevere through unexpected circumstances and fight to the end against tough competition," said diving coach Karla Helder. "Tomorrow, we look to finish strong as we will see Glenn, Abie and Sarah on the tower."
WVU had five divers compete on day two of Zones, including senior Marian Tiemeier, sophomore Sarah Krusinski, freshman Abigail Sullivan, senior Owen Johns, and sophomore Glenn Eloriaga. The men started Tuesday afternoon's competition on 3-meter, while the women competed on 1-meter.
Tiemeier led the way for the women scoring a 255.90 during the women's 1-meter prelims and entered finals in 15th place, before adding 235.25 to her total score to finish 491.15 overall. Sullivan scored 225.85 during prelims to place 43rd. Following behind, Krusinski scored 217.85 to finish 52nd.
During the men's 3-meter prelims, Eloriaga scored 281.55 to place 28th. Johns was behind Eloriaga in 40th with a score of 244.65.
A total of 50 men and 79 women competed on the second day of competition, with the top 18 divers, both men and women, from the preliminary round reaching finals in each event.
The final day of competition continues Wednesday, March 8, with action at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park beginning at 11 a.m. ET. The men and women are tabbed to compete the platform events.
