
Mountaineers Complete Day One of Zones

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– The West Virginia University men's and women's diving teams completed the first day of competition at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown.
"Very happy with much of the diving from our divers with only a few days to come back up to strength from the Big 12 Championship," diving coach Karla Helder said. "Tomorrow we will see Marian, Abie and Sarah on 1-meter, and Owen and Glenn on 3-meter. Let's Go!"
WVU had three divers compete on the first day of Zones, including senior Marian Tiemeier, senior Owen Johns and sophomore Sarah Krusinski. The men started off Monday afternoon's competition on 1-meter, while the women competed on 3-meter.
Johns led the way for the Mountaineers scoring a 306.65 during the men's 1-meter prelims and entered finals in ninth place, before adding 275.40 to his total score to finish 15th overall.
During the women's 3-meter prelims, Krusinski scored 233.10 to place 45th. Tiemeier was behind Krusinski in 50th with a score of 225.95.
A total of 52 men and 66 women competed on the opening day of competition, with the top 18 divers, both men and women, from the preliminary round reaching finals in each event.
Competition continues Tuesday, March 7, with action at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park beginning at 12 p.m. ET. The women are tabbed to compete on 1-meter springboard, while the men will compete on 3-meter.Live results from the meet are available at DiveMeets.com, while the live stream information can be found on WVUsports.com.
