MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University has partnered with Artsman to create collections of distinctive items made from the Mountaineer Field House courts immortalized by the likes of Jerry West, Hot Rod Hundley, Rod Thorn and Ron "Fritz" Williams. Fans can pre-order any of the limited-edition items beginning Tuesday, March 7 at:
https://www.artsmansport.com.
The collection ranges from wood blocks and mini courts to items such as bottle openers, desk frames and courtside plaques. Each piece is hand crafted from game-used portions of the court, so no two items are alike. Most pieces also come in a decorative box featuring vintage West Virginia University logos and colors.
With limited quantities of each item offered based on how much court was available to use, fans are encouraged to pre-order their preferred items early. Production on the items will begin in a few weeks, so delivery may take up to four to six weeks.
Two different courts were preserved and are available for purchase – the original floor when the arena was constructed in 1929, and then a second "Golden Era" floor that was installed in 1947.
The Field House served as Mountaineer basketball's official home from 1929 until its retirement following the final game of the 1970 regular season against Pitt. The first floor was used by the 1942 NIT national championship team and the "Golden Era" floor was used by the 1959 squad that reached the NCAA finals before falling to California. The Field House was considered one of college basketball's toughest venues for opponents with the Mountaineers once winning 57 straight games there from 1944 until 1949
