Box Score 2 MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team (9-3, 0-0 Big 12) defeated Cleveland State, 5-2, Saturday afternoon before defeating Howard, 6-1, in Morgantown.
Saturday morning's competition against the Vikings began with doubles play. Junior
Momoko Nagato and sophomore
Michaela Kucharova clinched the first victory of the day over Cleveland State's Filippa Frogner and Selma Tounsi, 6-2. Sophomore
Camilla Bossi and senior
Ting-Pei Chang clinched the doubles point for West Virginia after a hard-fought match against Bethany Yauch and Sima Heren, winning 7-5.
Redshirt freshman
Maja Dodik and fifth-year senior
Pei-Ju Hsieh were unfinished at No. 3 doubles, 6-5.
During singles play, Bossi, Chang, Hsieh and sophomore
Tatiana Lipatova were victorious in two sets. At No. 6 singles, Lipatova clinched the match for the Mountaineers defeating Frogner, 6-3, 6-0.
Kucharova fell at No. 3 singles against Cleveland State's Tereze Vevere, 1-6, 5-7. Dodik fought through all three sets and a tiebreaker against Heren, but ultimately fell short, 6-3, 4-6, 6-7(1).

Later in the afternoon, WVU kept the momentum going to defeat Howard. Saturday afternoon's competition against the Bison began with doubles play where two of the three doubles pairs were victorious, stopping Dodik and Hsieh at 5-2 when the Mountaineers clinched the doubles point.
During singles play, Dodik, Chang, Bossi, Hsieh and Nagato clinched wins for West Virginia. At No. 1 singles, Bossi clinched the match for WVU defeating Howard's Jordan Grayson, 6-4, 6-4.
Kucharova fought through three sets, but was defeated by Howard's Nadia Pegram, 6-3, 0-6, 6-2.

Looking ahead
West Virginia continues its home stint on Friday, March 10, in Morgantown, as the Mountaineers take on Kansas State to begin Big 12 conference play. Competition is set to begin at 5 p.m. ET.
