The West Virginia University women's basketball team (16-10, 7-8 Big 12) fell in double overtime to Texas Tech, 69-68, inside United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock on Wednesday.
Sophomore guard
JJ Quinerly led WVU's scoring efforts for the 13th time this season, recording 21 points and a team-leading three assists. Redshirt sophomore guard

Madisen Smith both recorded double-doubles with 11 points and 12 rebounds and 11 points and 11 rebounds, respectively. Senior guard
Jayla Hemingway added 15 points.
The Mountaineers led for over 37 minutes in the contest, never trailing until the fourth quarter. Texas Tech's largest lead of the night was just two points and came during the first overtime period.
As a team, WVU shot 31.6% (24-of-76) from the floor, including 21.4% (6-of-28) from 3-point range. The Lady Raiders were more efficient on the night, knocking down 24-of-56 (42.9%) from the floor and 18-of-25 (72.0%) from the charity stripe.
West Virginia won the opening tip and scored on their first possession before mounting a 13-2 run over the next 4:02 to jump out to a 15-2 lead after five minutes. WVU forced six Lady Raider turnovers during the span and collected one steal. Texas Tech settled into the game, cutting the Mountaineer lead down to five at 18-13, but WVU managed a 21-13 lead after 10 minutes.
After trading baskets early, West Virginia produced their second double-digit run of the half, scoring 10 straight to a 34-17 advantage. Texas Tech went over five minutes in the quarter without a made basket, 0-of-8 from the floor, as WVU took a 34-21 lead into the locker room.
Texas Tech came out of the break with an offensive rhythm, trimming the WVU lead to nine points, 39-30, at the media timeout. WVU struggled from the floor in the quarter, going just 2-of-11, including a six-minute scoring drought to end the frame. The Lady Raiders pulled within three points entering the final quarter.
The struggles continued for WVU's offensive early, as the Lady Raiders took their first lead of the game, scoring five straight points to a 40-39 lead. Quinerly knocked down the Mountaineers' first field goal in over eight minutes to quickly regain the lead on West Virginia's next possession.
Both squads traded baskets and the lead to a 53-53 mark at the end of regulation. Quinerly knocked down six of the mountaineers' final eight points, helping force overtime after Texas Tech missed a buzzer-beater three to close out 40 minutes of play.
West Virginia and Texas Tech matched each other in the first overtime period, as Quinerly managed five of WVU's points. Trailing 60-58 with 24 seconds to play, Smith found senior forward

The Mountaineers' and the Lady Raiders continued matching points in the second overtime before a Watson 3-pointer pushed the WVU lead to 67-64 with under a minute to play. Smith made a free throw later to increase the lead to four with 20 seconds on the clock.
Texas Tech was fouled on a three, making all three attempts, before a turnover allowed Texas Tech to take the lead with three seconds to play. Quinerly's corner jumper at the horn crashed off the rim, resulting in a one-point loss.
Also of note, Smith made her 132nd career start, the second most in program history as she passes Linda Stepney (2012-15).
With the result, West Virginia moves to 17-6 all-time against Texas Tech, including 7-4 in games played in Lubbock.
West Virginia now returns home for senior day on Saturday at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown. The matchup is against Kansas State with tipoff set for 6 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and the Mountaineer Sports Network, including 100.9 WZST-FM.
