
No. 4 Texas Sweeps West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (9-16, 2-10 Big 12) fell to Texas in three sets on Friday night. The Longhorns took the match with scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-19.
Sophomore outside hitter Bailey Miller led the team in kills with 14, followed by junior outside hitter Hailey Green and sophomore middle blocker Tierney Jackson with 12 and 10, respectively.
Redshirt senior Lauren DeLo added 30 of West Virginia's 39 total assists. The Mountaineers collected 33 digs and two service aces versus Texas.
The Longhorns kicked off the match with a 2-0 run, followed by a kill from Green and a service ace from sophomore defensive specialist Samiha Foster to knot the score at two. The Mountaineers proceeded with three straight points and took an early, 5-3 lead over Texas. A 5-0 run pushed UT ahead, 18-11, before West Virginia responded with a run of its own to trail by three points, 18-15. A late three-point rally from the Longhorns put West Virginia in a scoring drought, as Texas grabbed the first set, 25-21.
Green gave West Virginia the first point of the second set, tying the score 1-1. Both sides of the court fought for points, with the score being tied nine separate times. The Longhorns stormed off to take the lead with a 4-0 run, to make the score 21-16. Miller added the last point for West Virginia, before UT took set two, 25-18.
Texas set the tone in the third and final set, with a 3-0 advantage and held the lead throughout the remainder of the match. A kill from Green looked to spark hope for West Virginia, as Texas lead 11-7. UT responded with six unanswered points, to lead by 10 points, 17-7. A 4-0 scoring rally held off the Longhorns at the set point, before Texas won the third set, 25-19.
The Mountaineers wrap up the series against Texas on Friday, Nov. 3 at the WVU Coliseum. Friday's match is a Gold Rush, and fans are encouraged to wear gold and will receive a Gold Rush poster giveaway. Fans who bring a canned food item to Friday's match will be granted $3 admission in support of the RACK.
