
West Virginia Downed by Texas Tech on Thursday Night

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (9-18, 2-12 Big 12) fell to Texas Tech on Thursday night in three sets. The Red Raiders claimed victory with scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-10.
West Virginia collected 22 digs, 18 kills and four total blocks versus Texas Tech.
The Mountaineers trailed early, 4-0 in the first set. Texas Tech continued to pull away, and led by as many as nine points, 11-2. A kill from sophomore middle blocker Tierney Jackson and an error from the Red Raiders gave West Virginia a 2-0 run, before Tech added another four straight points, making the score 23-11. Texas Tech would go on to take the first set, 25-12.
Tech went on to lead 6-1 at the start of the second set. West Virginia saw a spark after a kill from freshman middle blocker Emma Beretich and a pair of Red Raider errors, to trail 14-7. Texas Tech responded with a 4-0 run, and the 19-8 lead. A late trio of kills from sophomore outside hitter Bailey Miller, junior outside hitter Hailey Green and freshman middle blocker Maddy McGath halted Tech's offense as they led, 21-12. The Red Raiders persisted, sealing the second set, 25-15.
A kill from McGath would tie the third set early, 1-1. Texas Tech stormed over the Mountaineers, taking the 9-2 lead. West Virginia benefited from two straight points, courtesy of Tech errors, to trail 11-5. A 7-0 run from TTU put West Virginia in a scoring draught, as the Red Raiders led by as many as 13 points, 20-7. A last-ditch effort kill from Jackson at the Tech set point looked hopeful for West Virginia, before the Red Raiders grabbed the third and final set, 25-10.
The Mountaineers wrap up the series versus Texas Tech on Friday, Nov. 10 at the United Supermarkets Arena. Friday's match is slated for 4 p.m. ET.
