
Covas Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After stamping a career-high with 35 digs against TCU on Oct. 14, fifth-year libero Camilla Covas of the West Virginia University women's volleyball team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Covas surpassed her previous career record of 30 digs against Robert Morris on Sept. 15, aiding in the squad's first conference victory over the Horned Frogs, 3-2.
The San Juan, Puerto Rico, native has collected 278 digs so far this season, leading the team.
West Virginia stays at home to host Cincinnati for a pair of matches on Thursday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 20. The matches will be held at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, and are slated for a 6 p.m. ET, first serve.
This Week in Women's Soccer: West Virginia is off this week … the Mountaineers return to play on Monday, Oct. 23, when they welcome Cincinnati to Morgantown for the regular-season finale at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium … kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Last Week in Women's Soccer: WVU earned a pair of Big 12 Conference road victories, topping Kansas State and Kansas by a pair of 1-0 margins … in the first match against the Wildcats on Oct. 12, sophomore forward Taylor White scored in the 80th minute to lift the Mountaineers over KSU in Manhattan, Kansas … finishing the weekend against the Jayhawks on Oct. 15, it was a very similar game to the previous match, but this time it was junior forward Dilary Heredia-Beltran who found the back of the net to lead WVU to victory in Lawrence … freshman forward Jordyn Wilson and fifth-year senior midfielder Maya McCutcheon set up the score, with a pair of one-touch balls that gave Heredia-Beltran the perfect positioning for her impressive header goal.
Notes: White scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season against Kansas State, as she scored in the fourth straight game and notched her third straight game-winning goal … fifth-year senior goalkeeper Kayza Massey and the Mountaineer defense secured two more shutouts during the road trip, as they now have four straight shutouts … WVU now has nine clean sheets on the year, while Massey's eight shutouts rank No. 2 in the Big 12 Conference and No. 14 nationally … White ranks No. 5 in the league and No. 36 in the NCAA in total goals (9) … Heredia-Beltran's game winner against KU was the fourth of her career … West Virginia's four-game winning streak is its longest since the end of the 2022 campaign when it won six in a row.

Notes: Despite losing to Penn State, there were strong performances in the water for the West Virginia swimming and diving teams ... senior Danny Berlitz led the way once again for the men's team, winning three individual events (200-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard individual medley) ... sophomore Mia Cheatwood led the way for the women's team with two individual victories (100-yard and the 200-yard breaststroke) ... sophomore Ada Szwabinska won the 50-yard freestyle event and freshman Alyssa Martel won the 1000-yard freestyle.
