MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After stamping a career-high with 35 digs against TCU on Oct. 14, fifth-year libero Camilla Covas of the West Virginia University women's volleyball team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.

Covas surpassed her previous career record of 30 digs against Robert Morris on Sept. 15, aiding in the squad's first conference victory over the Horned Frogs, 3-2.

The San Juan, Puerto Rico, native has collected 278 digs so far this season, leading the team.

West Virginia stays at home to host Cincinnati for a pair of matches on Thursday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 20. The matches will be held at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, and are slated for a 6 p.m. ET, first serve.

This Week in Women's Soccer: West Virginia is off this week … the Mountaineers return to play on Monday, Oct. 23, when they welcome Cincinnati to Morgantown for the regular-season finale at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium … kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Last Week in Women's Soccer: WVU earned a pair of Big 12 Conference road victories, topping Kansas State and Kansas by a pair of 1-0 margins … in the first match against the Wildcats on Oct. 12, sophomore forward Taylor White scored in the 80th minute to lift the Mountaineers over KSU in Manhattan, Kansas … finishing the weekend against the Jayhawks on Oct. 15, it was a very similar game to the previous match, but this time it was junior forward Dilary Heredia-Beltran who found the back of the net to lead WVU to victory in Lawrence … freshman forward Jordyn Wilson and fifth-year senior midfielder Maya McCutcheon set up the score, with a pair of one-touch balls that gave Heredia-Beltran the perfect positioning for her impressive header goal.

Notes: White scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season against Kansas State, as she scored in the fourth straight game and notched her third straight game-winning goal … fifth-year senior goalkeeper Kayza Massey and the Mountaineer defense secured two more shutouts during the road trip, as they now have four straight shutouts … WVU now has nine clean sheets on the year, while Massey's eight shutouts rank No. 2 in the Big 12 Conference and No. 14 nationally … White ranks No. 5 in the league and No. 36 in the NCAA in total goals (9) … Heredia-Beltran's game winner against KU was the fourth of her career … West Virginia's four-game winning streak is its longest since the end of the 2022 campaign when it won six in a row.

This Week in Men's Soccer: West Virginia returns home this week for the Mountain State Derby against Marshall on Wednesday, Oct. 18 … kickoff from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 6 p.m. ET … the Mountaineers are currently ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches poll while the Thundering Herd are the No. 1 team in the country with a 12-0 record.

Last Week in Men's Soccer: The Mountaineers defeated South Carolina, 3-2, on the road on Oct. 12 … senior Luke McCormick, sophomore Marcus Caldeira, and senior Yutaro Tsukada each scored goals for WVU … Sergio Ors Navarro collected an assist … with the three points against the Gamecocks, WVU is now in third place in the Sun Belt standings with nine points, only behind the top two teams in the country, Marshall and UCF.

Notes: West Virginia extended its unbeaten streak to 13 matches, the longest in program history to begin a season … the streak is only behind the 17-game streak in 1967-68 … Marshall will be the third top-five team the Mountaineers face this season, having already defeated No. 3 Portland and drawing with No. 5 UCF … Marcus Caldeira scored his ninth goal of the season, most in the Sun Belt and top-20 in the country … it is the first time that WVU will face the No. 1 team since taking on Maryland in 2016 … the last time that the Mountaineers defeated the top-ranked team came against UConn in 2011 … since 2006, West Virginia is 17-13-2 against ranked opponents at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

This Week in Volleyball: West Virginia (8-12, 1-6 Big 12) will host Cincinnati for a pair of matches on Thursday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 20 … both matches are set to be held at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown and will have 6 p.m. ET starts.

Last Week in Volleyball: West Virginia traveled to Orlando, Florida, on Oct. 11, and faced UCF at The Venue at UCF … West Virginia fell, 3-0, to the Knights ... the Mountaineers finished out the week on Oct. 14 against TCU at the WVU Coliseum … the squad defeated the Horned Frogs in five sets, 3-2, and clinched the first conference win of the season.

Notes: Fifth-year libero Camilla Covas set a career-high against TCU with 35 digs in the match … sophomore outside hitter Bailey Miller led the team versus TCU with 23 kills … redshirt senior setter Lauren DeLo had a double-double with 56 assists and a career-high 17 digs … the Mountaineers will face off against Cincinnati for the first time since 2011, West Virginia leads the all-time program series 7-0.

This Week in Cross Country: The West Virginia cross country will resume competition on Saturday, Oct. 28 for the Big 12 Cross Country Championships in Ames, Iowa.

Last Week in Cross Country: The Mountaineers did not compete.

Notes: The Mountaineers rank fourth overall in the Mid-Atlantic region as per the regional polls released last week by the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) … the squad is also receiving votes (6) in the National Coaches poll.

This Week in Tennis: West Virginia will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional in Lynchburg, Virginia, from Oct. 19-23.

Last Week in Tennis: The Mountaineers did not compete.

Notes: The Mountaineers are led by a veteran group with two graduate students, one senior, three juniors and a redshirt sophomore ... graduate student Love-Star Alexis transferred from Middle Tennessee State during the offseason after compiling 89 career wins for the Blue Raiders ... head coach Miha Lisac named a new assistant coach for the upcoming season, as Calvin Song joins the program after spending the last three seasons at Fresno State.

This Week in Golf: Four golfers will compete at the Xavier Invitational in Cincinnati, on Monday, Oct. 16, and Tuesday, Oct. 17 … seniors Oli Ménard and Will Stakel, junior Pierce Grieve and sophomore Westy McCabe will compete as individuals for the Mountaineers … golfers will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday at the par 70, 6,992-yard Maketewah Country Club.

Last Week in Golf: The golf team recorded its most victories in program history at this year's Big 12 Match Play Championship at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas … after defeating No. 22 Texas Tech (3-1-1) on Oct. 9, and UCF (3-2-0) on Oct. 10, the Mountaineers closed out the Big 12 Match Play Championship with a 2-1-2 victory over UCF to finish 3-2 on the week.

Notes: The three team victories at the Big 12 Match Play Championship are the most for WVU since winning two matches in 2019.

This Week in Swimming and Diving: West Virginia is off this week before hitting the road for the only time in the 2023-24 season against Cincinnati on Friday, Oct. 27, and Saturday, Oct. 28.

Last Week in Swimming and Diving: Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Penn State on Oct. 13-14 at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown ... the men's team lost, 111-189, while the women's team fell, 121-179.

Notes: Despite losing to Penn State, there were strong performances in the water for the West Virginia swimming and diving teams ... senior Danny Berlitz led the way once again for the men's team, winning three individual events (200-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard individual medley) ... sophomore Mia Cheatwood led the way for the women's team with two individual victories (100-yard and the 200-yard breaststroke) ... sophomore Ada Szwabinska won the 50-yard freestyle event and freshman Alyssa Martel won the 1000-yard freestyle.

This Week in Rowing: West Virginia is idle this week ... the Mountaineers will not compete again until the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on Saturday, Oct. 28, in Philadelphia.

Last Week in Rowing: West Virginia hosted Duquesne for an exhibition at the WVU boathouse on Sept. 30.

This Week in Rifle: West Virginia does not compete this week.

Last Week in Rifle: WVU (3-0) defeated No. 4 Ole Miss, 4749-4730, on Oct. 14, before taking down Memphis, 4737-4706, on Oct. 15 … fifth-year senior Mary Tucker posted the top aggregate score (1189) and senior Matt Sanchez took second (1188) against Ole Miss … in smallbore, freshman Griffin Lake finished first (595) and Tucker took second (592) against Ole Miss … in air rifle, the trio of Sanchez, senior Molly McGhin and junior Natalie Perrin tied for first at 598 as Tucker finished just behind with a 597… against Memphis, Tucker swept the podium, taking first in aggregate (1190), smallbore (592) and air rifle (598).

Notes: Tucker holds the third-best aggregate average in the nation, while she owns the highest mark in smallbore … Sanchez (590) and Lake (595) set career highs in smallbore as Perrin (598) set a career high in air rifle against Ole Miss … Sanchez matched his mark in smallbore against Memphis the following day … Tucker, McGhin, Perrin, junior Gavin Barnick and fifth-year senior Malori Brown hit season highs over the weekend.
