
Titus Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After stunning the No. 1 wrestler in the country at 141 pounds to lift West Virginia over No. 21 Pitt, redshirt freshman Jordan Titus of the West Virginia University wrestling team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Titus claimed a 3-1 decision over No. 1 Cole Matthews of Pitt during Sunday's Backyard Brawl to improve to 2-0 over the weekend. With 21 seconds remaining in the match, the redshirt freshman ducked under Matthew's left armpit and delivered a takedown to secure the win as part of a 18-4 spurt by the Mountaineers to start the dual.
Two days prior, the Center Moriches, New York, native scored a 14-2 major decision over Ohio's Aidan Waszak for the first bonus point win of the dual. Titus took down Waszak twice in the first period and added a four-point nearfall in the second to lead 8-2 heading into the third. He went on to pull off an escape and turn a takedown into a two-point nearfall to seal the bout and give West Virginia a 10-0 advantage through three matches. WVU proceeded to defeat Ohio by 19 points (28-9).
This Week in Women's Basketball: WVU readies for a pair of home contests this week, beginning with TCU (6-8, 0-3 Big 12) on Tuesday, Jan. 10 … tipoff inside the WVU Coliseum is set for 7 p.m. ET, in Morgantown … WVU completes its homestand with a matchup against No. 18 Baylor (12-3, 3-0 Big 12) on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 3 p.m. ET.
