Box Score 2 MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team (1-1, 0-0 Big 12) split the day 1-1 as it fell to Penn 5-2, and defeated Temple 4-0, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
"This was a tough challenge today and the team responded. We played two solid teams in a row as a doubleheader," said coach
Miha Lisac. "Not something that we would normally plan, but it was good to see how the team would react facing this challenge," he continued. "We had a battle in the first match and it took a huge effort to get re-energized for the second match. We got better as a program today."
Saturday afternoon's competition against the Quakers began with doubles play. Sophomore/senior pair
Camilla Bossi and
Ting-Pei Chang defeated Penn's Eileen Wang and Gavriella Smith, 6-2.

Momoko Nagato and sophomore
Michaela Kucharova fell short to Penn's Sabine Rutlauka and Juliana Munhoz, 3-6. Penn claimed the doubles point after sophomore
Kendall Kovick and redshirt freshman
Maja Dodik fell short to Iris Gallo and Saige Roshkoff, 1-6.
During singles play, Dodik secured her first win as a Mountaineer against Roshkoff in two-straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Kovick earned another singles win against Munhoz, 6-4, 6-1.
Nagato, Kucharova, Chang, and Bossi all suffered losses to the Quakers. Bossi fought through all three sets, but ultimately fell short to Rutlauka, 6-4, 4-6, 2-6.
Nagato, Kucharova, and Chang fell in two-straight sets. Penn's Maya Urata defeated Nagato, 5-7, 6-7, while Wang defeated Kucharova, 2-6, 3-6. Smith topped Chang, 6-2, 7-5.

Later in the evening, WVU moved on to face Temple where it was able to quickly bounce back. Saturday evening's competition against the Panthers began with doubles play where two of the three doubles pairs were victorious, stopping Chang and Bossi at 3-3 when the Mountaineers clinched the doubles point.
During singles play, Bossi, Nagato, and Dodik clinched wins for West Virginia. Chang, Kucharova, and Kovick were unfinished.
