Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against Coastal Carolina on Friday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
 
In the Mountaineers' first-ever Sun Belt Conference fixture, WVU (2-3-1, 0-0-1 Sun Belt) got everything but the goal, outshooting the Chanticleers (2-2-2, 0-0-1 Sun Belt), 13-5, including 6-2 in shots on goal. West Virginia also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Freshman forward Marcus Caldeira led the way with three shots on the night – all of them on frame. The Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, native was a threat to score on multiple occasions, but the chances were turned away by the CCU keeper.
 
Along with Caldeira, redshirt junior midfielder/defender Sergio Ors Navarro and junior forward Yutaro Tsukada each finished with two shots on Friday.
 
West Virginia nearly secured the late winner, as redshirt senior midfielder/defender Dyon Dromers struck a ball from outside the box in the closing seconds of the match. However, it sailed just over the bar to keep the score line at 0-0.
 
In goal, junior goalkeeper Jackson Lee made two saves and earned his second clean sheet of the season.
 
WVU moved to 3-1-2 all-time against the Chants, including 2-0-1 in Morgantown. With the result, the Mountaineers are now unbeaten at home in 16 of their last 17 matches, dating back to March 24, 2021.
 
Up next, West Virginia travels west to take on No. 13 Portland on Monday, Sept. 19. Kickoff at Merlo Field at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex in Portland, Oregon, is set for 10 p.m. ET.
