WVU Tallies 11 Top-Five Finishes

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The West Virginia University track and field team closed out action at the Mountaineer Showcase and Virginia Challenge, tallying 11 top-five finishes.
WVU hosted the Mountaineer Showcase on April 22-23 at the Track and Field Complex at Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia. Additionally, a handful of athletes traveled to the Virginia Challenge on April 21-23, at Lannigan Field, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Ten of West Virginia's top-five finishes came at the Mountaineer Showcase. The squad tallied three first-place finishes on the track.
Redshirt senior Hayley Jackson posted a Mylan Park record time in the 800-meter run after finishing in first place with a time of 2:08.16.
Senior Katherine Dowie also earned a first-place finish in her 3,000-meter steeplechase season debut. Dowie finished in a time of 10:13.68. She was followed by fifth-year senior Sylvia Russell, who placed first (4:32.82) in the 1,500-meter run.
Additionally, sophomore Maria Kaylor placed second in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:39.01. She was followed by sophomore Megan Weaver, who placed fourth in a time of 4:45.27.
Also on the track, senior Mikenna Vanderheyden placed third in the 800-meter in a time of 2:11.07, while freshman Ghamani Hogue placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.12.
In the field, junior Katelynn Caccamo placed first in pole vault with a height of 3.71 meters. She was followed by redshirt senior Ellie Gardner and sophomore Lynsie Curtis in second (3.56m) and third (3.56m-judge's decision) place, respectively.
Senior Sada Wright placed second in the discus throw competition. Wright threw a distance of 44.84 meters.
At the Virginia Challenge, sophomore Cassandra Williamson placed third in the 800-meter run. Williamson finished in a time of 2:08.26.
Up next, West Virginia will host the Mountaineer Twilight on April 30 at the Track and Field Complex at Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia. Additionally, a handful of Mountaineers will attend the Penn Classic on April 28-30 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
