MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team will travel to Fairfax Station, Virginia, on Sunday, April 24, to compete in the George Mason Invitational on the Occoquan Reservoir at Sandy Run Regional Park.
 
"Our team had the weekend off following Friday's Gold & Blue Regatta, and we're pleased with how quickly they got back into the groove of training this week," WVV coach Jimmy King said. "Despite some unusual weather, including two mornings of heavy fog that altered workout plans, we've had a solid week and look forward to racing on the Occoquan."
 
Other schools competing with the Mountaineers in tomorrow's regatta are Dayton, Delaware, Duquesne, George Mason, Jacksonville, St. Joseph's and Villanova.
 
WVU will compete in five events: Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Third Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four.  
 
Morning heats begin at 10 a.m. with Heat 1 of the Second Varsity Four, then conclude at 11:30 a.m. with Heat 2 of the Varsity Eight. Afternoon finals begin at 1 p.m. with the B Final of the Second Varsity Four and then conclude at 2:30 p.m. with the A Final of the Varsity Eight.
 
The Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four are seeded heats from which first and second place crews will advance to their A Final, while third and fourth place crews progress to their B Final. WVU is seeded sixth in the V8, second in the 2V8, and second in the V4.
 
The Third Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Four are unseeded heats. The 3V8 heat winners and next two fastest times, regardless of heat, will advance to the A Final, while the remaining crews will compete in the B Final. With only five entries in the 2V4 event, crews will qualify for a three-boat A Final by winning their heat or having the next fastest overall time; the remaining 2V4s will compete in a two-boat B Final.
 
10:00 a.m. – Heat 1, Second Varsity Four: Jacksonville, WVU
10:30 a.m. – Heat 2, Varsity Four: Duquesne, WVU, Villanova, Dayton
10:50 a.m. – Heat 2, Third Varsity Eight: Delaware B, Dayton, WVU, Jacksonville
11:10 a.m. – Heat 2, Second Varsity Eight: Duquesne, WVU, Villanova, George Mason
11:30 a.m. – Heat 2, Varsity Eight: WVU, Villanova, Delaware, George Mason
