MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team will open its fall season on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Head of the Ohio, hosted by Three Rivers Rowing Association, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Varsity programs participating in the regatta include Duquesne, Franklin & Marshall and Robert Morris while the other entries are made up of club programs.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how we perform in our first racing of the year," coach
Jimmy King said. "With favorable conditions in the forecast, it should be a good day of racing. I'll be most interested in seeing how well our crews hold on to what have been our technical points of focus amidst the excitement of racing."
The course begins upstream above the 33rd Street Railroad Bridge covering 2.5 miles, racing under eight bridges, before finishing just upstream of the Fort Duquesne Bridge. All boats launch and return to Lambert Boathouse on Washington's Landing.
WVU will field two out of nine entries in the Novice 4+, five out of 25 entries in the Open 4+ and four out of 16 entries in the Open 8+.
Spectator parking will not be allowed on Washington's Landing. Free shuttle service will be provided between the
11th & Smallman Lot ($10 parking),
Washington's Landing and the
Finish Line Spectator Zone beginning at 5:30 a.m. Those with accessibility parking permits may be able to park on Washington's Landing, space permitting.
Saturday's racing at the Head of the Ohio will be live streamed through Overnght.com.
