MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The West Virginia University track and field team is set to split action at two meets on April 21-23. 
 
WVU will host the Mountaineer Showcase at the Track and Field Complex on April 22-23 at Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia. Friday's field events are tabbed for 12:30 p.m., followed by track events at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, field events begin at 9 a.m., followed by track events at 10 a.m. 
 
Additionally, a handful of athletes will travel to the Virginia Challenge on April 21-23, at Lannigan Field, in Charlottesville, Virginia. WVU begins action on day two of the Virginia Challenge with Friday's events tabbed for 11 a.m., followed by action at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The Mountaineer Showcase marks the third of four outdoor home meets for the Mountaineers this season. 
 
WVU last hosted the Mountaineer Showcase on April 26-27, 2019, the team's second home meet at the new facility, which officially opened in October 2018. 
 
West Virginia enjoyed victories by then-redshirt senior Bria Welker in the 100 meters and then-redshirt freshman Hayley Jackson in the 1,500 meters on day one of competition. Welker opened day two with a win in the 400 meters in a time of 57.67 before then-redshirt junior Olivia Hill won the 3,000 meters in 9:59.61. 
 
Later, then-freshman Peter-Gay McKenzie placed first in the 200 meters in 25.75, ahead of Welker, who finished second (26.02). 
 
Then-redshirt senior Madelin Gardner continued her dominance in pole vault. In an event that was moved to the WVU Shell Building due to wind conditions, Gardner registered a mark of 4.40 meters (14 feet, 5.25 inches) in her victory. The win was Gardner's fourth straight in the event. 
 
WVU last saw action at the Virginia Challenge on April 16-17, 2021. Four Mountaineers saw action in four events. Then-junior Myesha Nott placed seventh in the triple jump competition with a distance of 13.33 meters. She was followed by then-freshman Abigale Mullings, who placed fifth (1.65m) in the high jump competition. 
 
Additionally, then-junior Tessa Constantine placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.29, while then-junior Sada Wright placed seventh in the discus throw with a personal best distance of 48.46 meters. Wright's distance was second-best in WVU program history. 
 
Last week WVU completed action at the Bison Outdoor Classic with six top-five individual finishes in seven events. On April 15-16, the meet took place at Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. 
 
On the track, sophomore Maria Kaylor placed second in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:08.05, while redshirt senior Hayley Jackson took fourth (4:25.16) in the 1,500-meter run. Sophomores Jo-Lauren Keane (2:08.29) and Cassandra Williamson (2:08.82) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800-meter run. 
 
Redshirt junior Malina Mitchell placed fifth (5:18.04) in the mile run, while senior Sada Wright placed fifth in the discus competition. Wright threw a distance of 45.94 meters.
