Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team concluded its homestand on Sunday, March 20, as the Mountaineers fell, 5-2, to No. 26 Baylor, at the Summit Tennis Academy, in Morgantown.
"Overall, we competed well today. We came out very strong in doubles, with good energy," Mountaineer coach
Miha Lisac said. "We used that momentum going into the start of singles to put a lot of our matches in a good position. Credit to Baylor, they're a very good team. They can close on the big points. We're going to build off of this weekend and use it on the road the next two weeks."
West Virginia (7-9, 0-2 Big 12) went into singles play with an advantage, after the Mountaineers claimed the doubles point. Freshman

Anastasiia Bovolskaia defeated Paula Baranano and Alina Shcherbinina, 6-4, to tally the first win for WVU.

Momoko Nagato fell, 4-6, to Ana Carmen Zamburek and Anita Sahdiieva, leaving the doubles point up to freshman

In a back-and-forth match, the pair topped Baylor's No. 5 pair Mel Krywoj and Alicia Herrero, 6-4, to secure the doubles point for the Mountaineers.
During singles play, the Bears went on a 4-0 run. In the No. 2 spot, Bovolskaia fell to Herrero, 2-6, 4-6, to initially put BU on the board. Lipatova battled it out against No. 123 Alina Shcherbinina, but ultimately fell short, 5-7, 5-7.
In the No. 1 spot, Kovick came up short to Isabella Harvison, 3-6, 5-7, before Krywoj topped Nagato to secure the match for the Bears. Krywoj claimed the first set, 6-3, before Nagato forced the tie-break set with a 7-6(3) victory in the second. Krwoj ultimately outlasted Nagato, 6-2, to give Baylor the win.
In the final two matches, WVU and BU went toe-to-toe. Freshman
Michaela Kucharova fell after a three-set battle against Baranano. The freshman claimed the first set, 6-4, but came up short in the second 7-6(3). During the tie-break set, Kucharova came up short 10-5.
The Mountaineers avoided the singles sweep as Bossi took the match against Anita Sahdiieva. The freshman fell in the first set, 3-6, to bounce back and force a tie-break, 7-6(5), in the second. With a back-and-forth battle, Bossi tallied WVU's solo singles win of the day, 10-8, over Sahdiieva.

Looking Ahead
West Virginia travels to Texas for a pair of dual matches, on March 25-27. Starting off in Fort Worth, WVU is set for a matchup against TCU, on Friday, March 25 at 2:30 p.m. ET. To conclude the road swing, the Mountaineers make their way to Lubbock to play No. 41 Texas Tech, on Sunday, March 27, at 12 p.m.
