
Mountaineers Open Outdoor Home Slate

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team opens the 2022 outdoor regular season by hosting the annual Stan Romanoski Open on March 18-19, at the Track and Field Complex at Mylan Park.
The meet is set to begin with the hammer throw on Friday, which is tabbed for 2 p.m. ET. Saturday's action will begin with field events at 12 p.m. while running events are scheduled to commence at 12:15 p.m. Live results for the meet are available at ncwvtf.com.
The Stan Romanoski Open is named in honor of the former men's cross country and track and field head coach from 1958-80. After piloting the programs for nearly 25 years, Romanoski put together a 109-81 cross country record, along with a 70-39-1 track and field record.
The Stan Romanoski Open marks the first of five outdoor home meets for the Mountaineers this spring.
The Mountaineers closed out their indoor season at the 2022 Big 12 Championships Feb. 25-26, in Ames, Iowa, while McCabe took on the2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, on March 11-12. McCabe placed eighth in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9:05.09.
Last season, the Mountaineers opened outdoor competition with the Stan Romanoski Open.Tessa Constantine placed first in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 58.21 and Marianne Abdalah took first in the women's 3,000-meter run finishing in a time of 10:12.49.
Sada Wright saw a second-place showing in the discus throw with a distance of 40.02 meters. The Mountaineers then saw action in pole vault when Lydia Moell placed second with a distance of 3.70 meters.
Emily Oiler and Lilly McMullen finished the 400-meter dash placing third (58.95m) and fourth (59.54m), respectively.
On the track, McCabe took second place in the 1,500-meter run, with a time of 4:19.Constantine took third place in the 200-meter run with a time of 25.45.
In the Mountaineers final competition, Malina Mitchell followed Abdalah in the women's 3,000-meter run placing fourth with a time of 10:50.99.
