
Youth Sports Day Set for Dec. 10

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Athletics, Learfield Amplify, Mountaineer Sports Marketing and UScellular have teamed up to partner for the 2022 Youth Sports Day for the upcoming Mountaineer men's basketball season.
Youth Sports Day is set for Saturday, Dec. 10 against UAB at 6 p.m. This is an initiative to involve children in the area the opportunity to participate in an exclusive pregame clinic, hosted by the Center for Applied Coaching and Sports Sciences at WVU.
"Developing athleticism is essential both for sport performance and for overall lifetime health and well-being," Kristen Dieffenbach, director of the center said. "It is essential for kids to experience a wide range of sports and activities to support holistic skill development and fitness. The Center of Applied Coaching and Sport Sciences at WVU is excited to be working with WVU Athletics in providing a youth sport sampling experience for kids that also allows WVU students in coaching and sport sciences an opportunity to share their enthusiasm for sport and their knowledge with the community."
Entry is open to all kids, family, friends and coaches. Tickets are just $15 per person. The first 500 kids to register will receive a free WVU Youth Sports Day t-shirt courtesy of UScellular.
This is the second annual Youth Sports Day for Basketball and has been an event that has seen tremendous growth since launching in 2019.
"We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting local event helping support skill development and promote physical activity," said Nakeita Stewart, director of sales for UScellular in the Mid-Atlantic.
Pregame festivities will start at 3:30 p.m. in the WVU Shell Building, located directly behind the WVU Coliseum. Registration will begin at 3:15 p.m. All participants must sign a waiver upon arrival and at least one parent or guardian must be present at all times. T-shirts will be picked up at the registration table. The clinic will conclude at 5:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to enter the stadium using the Gold gate.
