MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the first time ever, two former West Virginia University baseball alums hit home runs on the same night in Major League play.
It happened on Tuesday night when Ryan McBroom went yard in the eighth inning for the Kansas City, his two-run, pinch-hit blast off of Cincinnati's Amir Garrett tying the game at 5-5, while Jedd Gyorko's two-run shot in the eighth broke a 4-4 tie to give Milwaukee a 6-4 victory over Minnesota.
McBroom is hitting .294 with three home runs and five RBIs in 14 games for the Royals, while Gyorko has boosted his batting average to .286 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs in 11 games with the Brewers.
Milwaukee is in fourth place in the National League Central with a 7-9 record while Kansas City is at the bottom of the American League Central with an 8-11 mark.
