MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt senior guard Tynice Martin of the West Virginia University women's basketball was selected with the 34th overall pick in the third round of the 2020 Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Draft on Friday evening.
"Congratulations to Tynice on being drafted by Los Angeles Sparks," WVU coach Mike Carey said. "It's well deserved. She had a great career at West Virginia University, and everybody here is very proud of her."
Martin becomes the ninth player in program history to be drafted by a WNBA team and is the first Mountaineer taken since Teana Muldrow was selected by the Seattle Storm with the 29th overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft.
The Atlanta, Georgia, native finished her Mountaineer career with 1,980 career points, good for No. 4 in program history. A three-year co-captain, Martin also finished her career with 4,162 minutes played, No. 3 in program history, and is ranked in the top 10 in 11 WVU records, including four in the top three. After being selected to the 2020 All-Big 12 Second Team this year, she became only the fourth player in program history to be selected to an all-conference team four times.
