MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team embarks on its first Big 12 Conference road trip this weekend, as the Mountaineers travel to Texas and Baylor from March 6-7.
WVU begins this weekend's action tomorrow against No. 6 Texas at the Texas Tennis Center in Austin. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET. The Mountaineers are 0-7 all-time against the Longhorns.
The Longhorns are coming off a 4-2 win against No. 15 Michigan on March 3, in Austin. Prior to that, Texas was riding a two-match losing streak, after suffering losses to No. 12 Stanford, 4-3, and No. 17 Pepperdine, 7-0.
Texas enters Friday's contest with a record of 9-3 and will open Big 12 play against West Virginia. UT's Bianca and Anna Turati rank No. 4 and No. 14, respectively, in the latest Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Singles Rankings. The pair also ranks No. 29 in the latest doubles rankings.
The Mountaineers conclude this weekend's action on Saturday, March 7, against No. 27 Baylor at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live stats for Saturday's match will be posted on WVUsports.com prior to first serve. West Virginia is 0-7 all-time against the Bears.
BU is coming off a 6-1, exhibition win over Tyler Junior College on March 4, at the Hurd Tennis Center, in Waco, and is currently riding a two-match win streak. Baylor also has won three of its last four matches dating back to Feb. 16.
Baylor enters the weekend with an 8-1 record and is scheduled to open Big 12 play on Friday, March 6, against Iowa State, in Waco. The Bears were previously scheduled to open conference action against TCU on Feb. 9, but the match was postponed until April 1.
