MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – On the second day of competition, three members of the West Virginia University swimming and diving team qualified for finals at the 2020 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, on Tuesday.
Redshirt sophomore
Jacob Cardinal Tremblay and freshman
Holly Darling qualified for finals for the second consecutive day, as Tremblay competed on 1-meter springboard and Darling on 3-meter. Sophomore
PJ Lenz also competed in the finals for the men.
Eight Mountaineers competed on Tuesday, while a total of 41 men and 56 women competed on the second day of the championship. The top 18 divers from the preliminary round reached the finals in each event.
"Today was another great day for the divers, and I'm really proud of Holly, Jacob and PJ," diving coach
Michael Grapner said. "Today's competition was tough, and they all pulled it off with some very consistent prelim and finals dives. With both Holly and PJ in qualifying position, as a coach, it was difficult to stay calm. I thought the divers handled it very well though, and I'm excited to see what they do tomorrow on platform."
Once again, Darling paced the women, finishing seventh in prelims with a score of 287.85. As the lone Mountaineer in the women's 3-meter final, she added 277.5 to her prelims score for a 565.35 overall mark to finish in 11th place.
Junior
Callie Smith and sophomore
Camille Burt also competed in the women's prelims. Smith finished in 25th place with a score of 260.95, while Burt followed with a mark of 253.65 for 29th place.
