MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Big, bright and beautiful!
Those are just some of the words that immediately come to mind upon viewing the WVU Coliseum's new video board, thanks to West Virginia University's new partnership with ANC and its existing relationship with Learfield IMG College.
Already considered one of the premier showcase arenas in college sports, the WVU Coliseum is spending its 50th birthday in style this year with new seating and now with this state-of-the-art video board.
Once you enter the arena, it's almost as if you are in an entirely new place.
And the video board is immediately attention-getting because of its sheer size – nearly three times the size of the old video board in terms of LED space and more than twice the size in total video output.
In fact, the Coliseum video board's LED and video capabilities now exceed the one currently in Madison Square Garden, for years touted as the world's most famous arena.
Some of the expanded features included in the official announcement released in late July include
* 2,500 square feet of 6 mm LED
* 3,761 total square feet of LED
* 1,962 square feet of video space
* In-bowl fascia ribbons
* Enhanced lighting system
* Improved sound system
The new video board debuted during Thursday night's WVU volleyball match against Kansas State without fans.
When fans are safely permitted to return to the Coliseum, they are going to be in for an entertainment experience that will rival any NBA arena.
"This new video board is going to be a tremendous asset to the game day atmosphere and fan experience," Nathaniel Zinn, assistant athletics director for sports marketing, noted. "It's so much bigger than our previous board and the video quality and clarity is outstanding.
"It will be utilized in every way from live game action, to showing replays, displaying high-quality videos, to featuring cheering in the stands," Zinn added.
The man responsible for the new video board, WVU director of athletics Shane Lyons, is duly impressed.
"Really love how this project turned out – a BIG upgrade," he tweeted yesterday.
He added, "One of the best aspects of the new WVU Coliseum video board are auxiliary screens located underneath for the players on the floor, team benches and fans in floor seats."
Lyons ended his tweet with the hashtag #HailWV.
Indeed, Hail WV! and Hail Shane Lyons and to all of those responsible for giving the WVU Coliseum experience a big boost of adrenaline, as if this place was ever lacking in that area!
