MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Thursday, Jan. 30, when it hosts Villanova for a mid-week dual meet at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.
Action at the Aquatic Center is set to begin at 2 p.m. ET. Live results from Thursday's meet can be found at WVUSports.com/Swim, with diving results available at DiveMeets.com.
"Villanova will be a good challenge for us," Mountaineer coach Vic Riggs said. "(Villanova head coach) Rick Simpson does a great job of preparing his teams and our meets are always competitive. We need to focus on what we've been doing and continue to improve from meet to meet."
Villanova comes to Morgantown for the second time this season after the two squads competed in the WVU Invitational earlier this season. Thursday marks the sixth consecutive season that the Mountaineers and the Wildcats have competed, while the dual meet is the first in Morgantown between the two teams since the 2015-16 season.
At last year's contest, West Virginia capped three straight weekends of competition, as the men's team captured a 236-64 victory and the women's team fell by a score of 154-146. The Mountaineers broke nine pool records at the Villanova Swim Complex and collected multiple individual victories from seven swimmers and divers.
Then-sophomore David Dixon paced WVU with three solo wins, two pool records and one relay victory, while then-junior Morgan Bullock posted three individual wins and a pair of pool records.
The last time out, the women's team earned a Big 12 dual-meet victory over Iowa State, 167-133, on Jan. 25, in Morgantown. WVU collected 14 of 16 event victories, including both relays, to top the Cyclones. Bullock led the way with four total wins and three solo victories. Freshmen Emily Haimes and Holly Darling also picked up multiple solo wins during the contest.
West Virginia's women's team enters Thursday's meet at 2-2 in dual meets and 2-0 in the Big 12, while the men are 3-1 and 1-0 in the Big 12.
Villanova is coached by 20th-year head coach Rick Simpson, who led the women's team to its sixth straight Big East Championship two years ago. Simpson and his staff also collected the Big East Women's Coaching Staff of the Year honors last season. The women's team enters Thursday's matchup at 6-1 in dual-meet action, while the men are 2-4.
Additionally, the Mountaineer men's and women's teams were named Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Wednesday morning.
