MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been named Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for their success in the classroom during the 2019 fall semester.
The women's team earned the honor for the 24th consecutive semester after recording a cumulative grade point average of 3.40. The men earned a team GPA of 3.26 to collect the honor for the fifth consecutive semester and the sixth time in the last seven semesters.
"I'm proud of our teams for continuing to commit and dedicate themselves to their academics," Mountaineer coach Vic Riggs said. "They're really focusing on being the best student-athletes they can be, and I'm proud of them for that."
In addition to WVU, every Big 12 men's and women's swimming and diving program was named a Scholar All-America Team by the CSCAA. TCU and Texas joined West Virginia on the men's and women's sides, while Iowa State and Kansas were represented on the women's list.
The award, presented twice a year, recognizes college and university swimming and diving teams who achieved a cumulative semester GPA of 3.0 or higher. A fall semester-record 762 teams from 480 schools earned the honor this semester, representing more than 17,000 student-athletes across the country.
Founded in 1922, the CSCAA – the oldest organization of college coaches in America – is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming and diving at the collegiate level.
