Four Wins Lead WVU on Day Two in Williamsburg

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team collected four total wins on day two of the William Mary Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday evening at the Millie West Tennis Center in Williamsburg, Virginia.
"We had another good day of competition for us," WVU coach Miha Lisac said. "We were tested today and had some very good performances that we can build from going into tomorrow."
Doubles Recap
WVU split two doubles matches against host William & Mary to open day two. In the first match, juniors Anne-Sophie Courteau and Giovanna Caputo defeated Mila Saric and Natalia Perry, 8-5, but sophomore Anastasiia Bovolskaia and freshman Kat Lyman fell to Vitoria Okuyama and Charlotte Madson, 5-8, as the Mountaineers headed to singles play.

West Virginia went toe-to-toe with both Miami (Fla.) and Liberty in the second day of singles action, winning one against the Hurricanes and two against the Flames.
Courteau squared off against Miami's Lucia Marzal Martinez to open singles play. The sophomore fell to Marzal in two sets, 3-6, 1-6.
In WVU's second singles match, Caputo won the first set, 6-4, against Miami's Nada Dimovska but dropped the second frame, 2-6. In the super tiebreaker, Caputo claimed the match victory, winning the final set, 10-8.
Lyman remained undefeated and posted her team-leading fifth singles win of the fall against Liberty's Caisey Lee Emery. After winning the first set, 7-5, the freshman fell in the second set, 2-6. Lyman won the third frame handily, besting Emery 10-3 to claim WVU's third win of the day.
Sophomore Nicole Roc suffered the loss in the fourth singles match, as she fell to Esther Lovato in two sets, 0-6, 2-6.
In the final match of day two, Bovolskaia posted a solid victory over Liberty's Kelly Lewis, defeating her in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

Looking Ahead
In tomorrow's tournament finale, WVU and Liberty will square off in doubles action. West Virginia and VCU are scheduled to go head-to-head in the final singles action of the weekend to cap tournament play.
