MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team is back in action this weekend as the Mountaineers travel to the Lock Haven Invitational in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, Sept. 21.
The women's 6k race is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. ET, at the West Branch Cross Country Course. Live results are available at LexiconTiming.com.
"Each week we have added new faces to the lineup," coach Sean Cleary said. "This week is no different as we will see six new runners on the line. The race is huge in terms of runners. We expect between 350 and 400 competitors in the race, which will provide an entirely new simulation for future races."
West Virginia is one of 40 women's teams scheduled to compete in the Lock Haven Invitational. The Mountaineers are joined by six other teams from West Virginia, including Alderson Broaddus, Davis & Elkins, Fairmont State, Salem International, West Liberty and West Virginia Wesleyan. Other competing programs hail from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland.
WVU is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 13, in University Park, Pennsylvania. Junior Bree Warren paced the Mountaineers with a ninth-place finish, crossing Penn State's Blue-White Course finish line in a 6k time of 21:32.
Redshirt freshman Mikenna Vanderheyden made her collegiate debut at the Spiked Shoe Invite, tallying a 25th-place finish in 22:24. Other WVU finishers included redshirt freshman Peyton Kukura in 29th (22:33.6), closely followed by redshirt sophomore Marianne Abdalah in 30th (22:45.2). Redshirt freshman Amber Dombrowski rounded out the Mountaineers' scoring in 38th place (23:14.1).
Saturday's meet marks the Mountaineers' second consecutive season competing at Lock Haven. WVU visited the home of the Bald Eagles last year, earning a team victory after three Mountaineer runners finished in the top five, led by Olivia Hill in second place (20:59.5).
