MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Group E play at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup concludes for a trio of West Virginia University women's soccer players on Thursday, June 20, at noon, in France.
Forward/midfielder Michaela Abam and Cameroon kick against New Zealand at Stade de la Mosson in Montpellier, on FS1. Canada, featuring starting defenders Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence, faces Netherlands at Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims, on FOX.
The Canadians clinched a spot in the Round of 16 with a 2-0 win over New Zealand on June 15. Buchanan and Lawrence played the full 90 minutes; Lawrence finished with three shots, while Buchanan registered one.
Canada rides a 10-match unbeaten streak into Thursday's contest, matching its second-longest streak.
Cameroon enters Thursday's match needing at least a tie and help to advance to the Round of 16, as the squad dropped a 3-1 decision to Netherlands on June 15. Abam earned her first start of the tournament and played 60 minutes.
No more than three teams from Group E will advance to the tournament's Round of 16, with knock-out matches set for June 23-25. The quarterfinals will be played June 27-29, with the semifinals to follow July 2-4. The 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup France Final will be held Sunday, July 7, at Stade de Lyon in Lyon, France.
