
Four Earn All-District Academic Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Four West Virginia University student-athletes were named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District 2 Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Junior Philipp Matlari (golf) and sophomore David Koenders (rifle) were named to the men's team, while senior Abigail Rosiello (tennis) and junior Abby Kaufman (gymnastics) were named to the women's team.
The honors are the first career awards for all four Mountaineers.
The quartet advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with Google Cloud Academic All-America teams announced in June.
A native of York, Pennsylvania, Kaufman is the 2019 Big 12 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She is the first WVU gymnast since 2010 to earn a CoSIDA Academic All-District honor and the sixth gymnast in program history.
A two-time NACGC/W Scholastic All-American, Kaufman is an exercise physiology major with a 4.0 grade point average (GPA). She is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree and was named to the First Team in 2018 and 2019. A President's List honoree, Kaufman also is a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
In 2019, Kaufman paced WVU with 544.925 points, competing in the all-around in all 14 meets. She set career highs on vault (9.85), uneven bars (9.85), floor exercise (9.875) and in the all-around (39.225). Kaufman earned 14 podium finishes, the third-best team total, and earned her first career victories on vault and in the all-around. She ranks No. 2 on the team with 1,049.475 career points.
Koenders, a native of Mossautal, Germany, is the ninth different rifle student-athlete since 2009 to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades. A psychology major with minors in sport & exercise psychology and human services, he boasts a 4.0 GPA. Koenders, a two-time College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Academic Team honoree, was named to the 2019 Academic All-Big 12 At-Large First Team and was WVU's recipient of the 2019 Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Scholar-Athlete honor. He also is a member of the President's List, the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
In 2019, Koenders finished third in smallbore at the NCAA Championships with a score of 444.8 in the final. He pushed his career All-America honors count to six, landing on the National Rifle Association (NRA) All-America Second Team Air Rifle and Smallbore Teams, as well as the CRCA All-America Third Team. Koenders also was named to the All-GARC Air Rifle and Combined Score First Teams and the All-GARC Smallbore Second Team. He finished the year with averages of 590.31 air rifle and 582.7 smallbore.
Matlari, who hails from Leimen, Germany, played in eight tournaments during his second season with the Mountaineers. He posted a trio of top-20 finishes on the year and was in the lineup for both the 2019 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship as well as the 2019 NCAA Louisville regional. With a scoring average of 74.04, 16 of Matlari's 21 scores counted towards team totals.
A management major, Matlari was named to his first Academic All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team in April and earned special designation for his 4.0 grade-point average. He also appeared on the President's List, Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll and Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll this year.

A native of Morgantown, Rosiello is the second consecutive WVU tennis player to earn CoSIDA All-District honors. Fellow senior Paula Goetz was honored last year and was the first WVU tennis player selected to the Academic All-District team since 2006.
Rosiello is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree after being named to the first team for a second straight year in 2019. Rosiello also was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team in 2016.
The immunology & medical microbiology major maintained a 4.0 GPA in the fall and has garnered Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete honors twice. She also has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll and the President's List.
On the court, Rosiello tied for the team lead in doubles wins (10) and accumulated a 27-18 record, the third best record on the team, in her final season for the Mountaineers. The senior led the team with a .600 winning percentage this season and was named WVU's Most Improved Player for 2018-19.
