
WVU Exits Bucknell with Three More Top-Five Finishes

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team concluded competition at the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, on Sunday.
The Mountaineers competed in five events on the final day of the two-day competition at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium, earning top-five finishes in three of them. Redshirt senior Bria Welker led the way with a second-place finish in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 56.40.
Also on the track, freshman Peter-Gay McKenzie took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.82, while redshirt freshman Marianne Abdalah finished fourth in the 3,000 meters in 10:18.09. A pair of Mountaineers also competed in the mile. Freshman Linda Jebet led the way with a 14th-place finish in 5:27.74, ahead of redshirt junior Andrea Pettit, who was 17th in 5:38.15.
In the field, sophomore Michaela Ashford placed 18th in the long jump with a mark of 5.00 meters (16 feet, 5 inches).

Redshirt senior Madelin Gardner won the pole vault with an outdoor season-best mark of 4.32 meters (14 feet, 2 inches), while redshirt junior Faith Penny tied for sixth in the high jump (1.66 meters – 5 feet, 5.25 inches).
Additionally, redshirt junior Candace Jones registered a career-best time of 4:23.00 in the 1,500 meters invitational on Saturday, good for seventh place. In all, the Mountaineers combined for six top-eight finishes on the weekend.
This weekend also marked the fourth consecutive year West Virginia has competed at Bucknell. The Mountaineers were among a large group of Division I schools at the meet, including Bucknell, Buffalo, Cornell, Duquesne, George Washington, Lehigh, Maryland, Penn, Penn State, Pitt, St. Joseph's, Syracuse, Temple and several others.
Next up, WVU competes at the Virginia Challenge, from April 19-20, in Charlottesville, Virginia. The meet, which takes place at Virginia's Lannigan Field, marks the second time the Mountaineers will travel to the home of the Cavaliers. WVU also competed in a four-team meet at Virginia on April 6, earning eight top-three finishes, including four wins. It'll also be West Virginia's ninth meet at Virginia since the 2014 campaign.
