The West Virginia University tennis team (10-10, 0-8 Big 12) dropped a close contest on Friday evening, as the Mountaineers fell to Baylor, 4-3, at the Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.
"It was a good battle today," said head coach
Miha Lisac. "Unfortunately, some lack of execution in doubles gave Baylor an advantage that we were unable to overcome throughout the rest of the match."

Anastasiia Bovolskaia started in the No. 2 slot against Paula Baranano and Livia Kraus. A back-and-forth battle ensued for the first half of the match until it was all knotted up at four. The Baylor duo won the final two points, as Duran and Bovolskaia fell, 4-6. With the win, the Bears clinched the doubles team point and led WVU, 1-0.
The final match from the No. 3 slot went unfinished. Senior
Abigail Rosiello and sophomore
Anne-Sophie Courteau trailed Dominika Sujova and Jessica Hinojosa, 5-6, when the match was called.

The first singles match to finish came from the No. 4 slot, where Bovolskaia fell to Kris Sorokolet in two sets, 2-6, 2-6.
Finishing shortly after from the No. 2 slot, Duran was bested by Jessica Hinojosa, 2-6, 1-6.
In the No. 1 slot, Jordan dropped her first set to No. 61 Livia Kraus, 3-6. The two traded blows in the second set until the score was tied up, 5-5. Kraus pulled away from Jordan in the final two points to claim the second set, 7-5. With the win, Baylor claimed its fourth team point to clinch the match. The remaining matches would be played out.
Despite trailing Angie Shakhraichuk, 1-4, in the No. 6 slot, sophomore
Giovanna Caputo won by retirement in the in the first set to claim the Mountaineers' first team point.
Starting in the No. 3 slot, Goetz won her first set, 6-4, over Paula Baranano. The Rottenburg, Germany, native suffered a setback in the second set, 6-7, as Baranano would force a third-set, super tiebreaker. In the final frame, Goetz prevailed, winning the third set, 10-8, to claim the match.
The final match to finish came from the No. 5 slot, where Courteau bested Dominika Sujova, 6-2, in the first set. In the second-set tiebreaker, the Courteau suffered a setback, falling 6-7, to Sujova. In the third and final frame, the sophomore emerged victorious, winning 11-9 to claim WVU's third and final win of the day.

Looking Ahead
West Virginia next competes on Sunday, April 14, as it hosts Texas for the regular-season finale at the Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.
Sunday's first serve against the Longhorns is set for 11 a.m. Fans can follow the action against UT via
StatBroadcast. The match against Texas is Senior Day and marks the final home match for seniors Goetz, Rosiello and
Kirsten White. A ceremony for the trio will take place approximately ten minutes prior to first serve.
WVU is seeking its first win over Texas. In last year's regular-season contest, the Mountaineers were defeated by the No. 5-ranked Longhorns, 4-0, on the road.
Texas enters the Sunday's match with a 15-3 record, including a perfect 8-0 record in Big 12 play. UT checked in at No. 6 in this week's ITA/Oracle team rankings. Texas' roster includes four ranked singles players, including two in the top 50 – No. 29 Bianca Turati, No. 41 Anna Turati, No. 55 Petra Granic and No. 123 Bojana Markovic. The Longhorns' roster also includes two ranked doubles pairs – No. 55 Anna Turati/Bianca Turati and No. 67 Anna Turati/Katie Poluta.
