
WVU Well-Represented at Long-Course Meets

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Nine members of the West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams travel to national long-course meets this weekend.
Junior Morgan Bullock and freshmen Giselle Gursoy and Reka Kovacs of the women's team and juniors Austin Hartke and Jack Portmann, sophomores David Dixon and Max Gustafson and freshman Josh Harlan of the men's team are set to compete at the TYR Pro Swim Series at Richmond, from April 11-13, in Richmond, Virginia.
Elsewhere, freshman Fausto Huerta will compete at the 2019 Dominican Swimming Federation (FEDONA) National Swimming Championship, from April 11-14, at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The Richmond meet, which takes place at the Collegiate School Aquatics Center, will feature more than 450 swimmers, including 41 national-team members. The USA Swimming-sanctioned event also will help kick off the summer long-course meter season for the Mountaineers.
Preliminary sessions for all three days are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET, with finals times set for 6 p.m. each night. A live stream of all prelims is available at usaswimming.org, while Friday and Saturday's finals will be aired live on The Olympic Channel.
Bullock and Dixon each participated at the 2019 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships last month. Bullock, who competed in her second career NCAA meet, finished 29th in the 200 butterfly (1:56.37), 54th in the 200 individual medley (1:59.92) and 57th in the 100 butterfly (54.86) at the women's meet, from March 21-23, in Austin, Texas.
Dixon, a native of Richmond, returns to his hometown after finishing 20th in the 200 fly (1:42.49), 46th in the 100 fly (47.03) and 59th in the 200 IM (1:45.93) at the men's event, from March 28-30, in Austin. It marked his second career appearance at the national meet.
Internationally, Huerta is set to compete for a spot on the Dominican Republic national team roster for the 2019 International Swimming Federation (FINA) World Aquatic Championships (July 12-28, in Gwangju, South Korea) and 2019 Pan American Games (July 26-Aug. 11, in Lima, Peru). Huerta previously competed at the FINA World Junior Championships in 2017 and the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2018.
Last month, the native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, qualified for this weekend's event at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Des Moines, from March 7-9, in Des Moines, Iowa.
